Kitchen printers

Print kitchen tickets automatically, send each part of an order to the right station, and check that print jobs went through.

PayperPlates can print a kitchen ticket for every order and send each item to the station that makes it: grill items to the grill, drinks to the bar. Set it up under Settings → Kitchen Printers.

When tickets print

Under When to print, choose:

  • When I accept the order (recommended): nothing prints for an order you end up rejecting.
  • As soon as the order is placed: tickets print the moment an order arrives.

Add a printer

Under Printers, add each printer, give it a name such as "Kitchen Main", and choose its Connection type:

  • Star CloudPRNT: Star Micronics printers that fetch tickets over the internet. Enter the printer's MAC address, which is printed on its self-test page.
  • Raspberry Pi bridge: a small device on your network that passes tickets to a printer that can't connect on its own. Enter the printer's device path.

Then set how its tickets look: Paper width, Character set, Auto-cut paper, Beep on new order, an optional Ticket header and Ticket footer (for example "KITCHEN COPY"), and Kick cash drawer if a drawer is attached.

Each printer shows when it last connected. Never connected means it hasn't checked in yet, so check its network and settings. You can disable a printer without deleting it.

Stations

A station is a place in your kitchen that gets its own tickets, such as Grill, Fryer or Bar. Choose the Printers in this station; a station can print to more than one. Turn on Prints every item (expo) for a station that should get the whole order, such as an expo or packing printer.

The default station is where unrouted items land.

Menu routing

Under Menu routing, send each category to a station. For example, Burgers go to Grill and Drinks go to Bar. Expand a category to override single items, such as one burger that's made on the fryer line. Create a station before routing anything to it.

An order with items from several stations prints a separate ticket at each one, showing only that station's items.

Check your print jobs

Recent print jobs lists every ticket sent and whether it printed. If an order didn't print, check here first, then the printer's connection.

Kitchen printing needs a compatible printer. Contact support before buying one and we'll confirm it works.
