Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to WCAG 2.1 Level AA and the AODA — where we currently stand, what we know still needs work, and how to reach us if something gets in your way.

01

Our commitment

PayperPlates is committed to making online ordering usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, magnification, voice control, or other assistive technology.

We are working toward conformance with the , and toward our obligations under the (AODA) and its Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (O. Reg. 191/11).

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA
Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005

Accessibility is treated as a requirement of the product, not a retrofit: it is considered when we design and build features, and when we procure third-party components.

02

Current conformance status

Partially conformant

PayperPlates is partially conformantwith WCAG 2.1 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means some parts of the platform do not yet fully meet the standard.

A full platform-wide audit against WCAG 2.1 AA is scheduled and has not yet been completed. We will publish the audit date, method, and results here when it is done, and we will update this status honestly rather than claim conformance we have not verified.

Measures already in place across the platform include:

  • Semantic HTML structure with landmark regions and a skip link.
  • Keyboard operability for navigation, menus, cart, and checkout, with visible focus indicators.
  • Accessible dialog, menu, tab, and form components built on tested primitives that manage focus and announce state.
  • Light and dark themes, both designed to meet AA contrast ratios for body text.
  • Responsive layouts that reflow without horizontal scrolling and support browser zoom to 200%.
  • Form fields with programmatically associated labels.
03

Known limitations

We publish what we know is not yet right. These are being worked on:

Sign-in and sign-up
The six-box one-time passcode field is difficult to navigate with a screen reader, its error messages are not announced, and one field label is not programmatically associated. This is our highest priority fix.
Restaurant-supplied content
Menu photos, item descriptions, and other content are uploaded by individual restaurants. Alternative text and readable descriptions depend on what they provide — see section 5.
Maps and live tracking
Interactive maps are supplied by a third party and have limited screen-reader support. Order status is also available as text on the tracking page and in SMS updates.
Admin console
Dense data tables, charts, and the order board have not yet been audited for screen-reader and keyboard use. Charts do not yet have text-equivalent summaries.
Third-party components
Payment fields and courier tracking are rendered by external providers. We monitor their conformance but do not control their code.

If you encounter a barrier that is not listed here, please tell us — see section 4. Reports directly shape what we fix first.

04

Feedback and requests

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of PayperPlates. If you encounter a barrier, or need information in a different format, contact us:

Response time
We acknowledge accessibility feedback within 2 business days and give a substantive response, including a remediation timeline where a fix is needed, within 10 business days.

When reporting a barrier it helps to include the page address, what you were trying to do, the assistive technology and browser you were using, and what happened.

Feedback is accepted in whatever format works for you, including by email, through the support form, or by phone if you ask us to call.

05

Accessible formats and communication supports

On request, we will provide our information — including these terms, our Privacy Policy, invoices, and account information — in an accessible format or with communication supports, at no additional cost.

We will consult with you about which format meets your needs, and provide it in a timely manner. Write to accessibility@payperplates.ca.

Menus and other content published by individual restaurants belong to those restaurants. If you need a restaurant’s menu in an accessible format, contact the restaurant directly; we will help you reach them and will pass the request along on request.

06

For restaurants using the platform

Ontario businesses have their own AODA obligations. The platform gives you the tools; the content is yours. To keep your storefront accessible:

  • Write descriptive alternative text for every menu photo and hero image.
  • Describe items in plain language, and keep allergen and dietary information in the text — not only in an image.
  • Choose a brand accent colour that keeps sufficient contrast in both light and dark themes. The branding editor previews both.
  • Avoid embedding critical information — prices, hours, allergens — in uploaded images or PDFs.
  • Provide a way for customers to reach you about accessibility, and respond to those requests.

If you provide goods or services in Ontario and have employees, you may also have AODA obligations for training, employment, and customer service that go beyond your website.

07

How we work on this

  • Accessibility requirements are considered during design and code review for new features.
  • Automated checks run against key flows, backed by manual keyboard and screen-reader testing on the ordering path.
  • Reported barriers are triaged by severity, with barriers that block ordering or sign-in treated as urgent.
  • This statement is reviewed at least annually and whenever a significant change ships.

This statement was prepared on July 31, 2026 using a self-evaluation of the platform. It has not yet been reviewed by an external auditor.

This document was last updated on July 31, 2026. We keep prior versions and will describe material changes on this page before they take effect.
